I am drawn to fairytales as they often reflect the overcoming of a problem or a struggle. They also teach us to become more in tune with nature and our childhood self. Inspired by the Grimm’s fairytale, ‘Rapunzel’, this work juxtaposes the main character’s struggles of isolation and desire for safety. The rampions, while beautiful and familiar, entangle the songbirds and symbolize the figure’s distress.
