The work explores the fairytale ‘The Little Mermaid’, by Hans Christian Anderson, where a young mermaid is willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul. This is a story of sacrifice for the man she loves and inevitable sorrow. While the tale is one of sadness, the work reflects her love of the ocean as well as her human connection to dancing.
