Emma Overman was born in Brazil and raised in Tennessee. She graduated from Hanover College and completed a Post Baccalaureate program at Maryland Institute College of Art. A full time artist since 2000, Emma has illustrated books, had one of her books featured in the 2003 White House Christmas tour, and won two international illustration competitions. These days, she focuses most of her time and efforts on raising her daughter and her own independent painting projects. Emma resides in Indianapolis with her daughter Annabel, and maintains a studio in the Harrison Center for the Arts.
"An appreciator of contrasts, I paint from internal landscapes that to me are both warm and fantastical. I tend to see beauty in sadness and darkness. A four year old child once described my work best: 'That (grey, leafless) woods isn't scary because the pig and the butterfly are together.'"
