Joy Scott of Joy Millinery, Inc. is a self-proclaimed advocate for hats. Politicians promise a chicken in every pot, and Joy believes there is a hat for every person. Smiling as she puts the finishing touches on her latest creation, she insists, Anyone who thinks they dont look good in hats just hasnt found the right hat as yet.
Joy is able to create hats and headpieces to suit your needs, whether its to match an outfit or a mood. But it is her innate ability to visualize the right hat for your face shape, coloring and fashion style that separates her from other designers. That may be why no two Joy Scott creations are exactly alike
Born in London on the bank of the Thames River, Joy was bitten by the fashion bug early in life. She learned to sew and make clothing before reaching her teens. Her first clients? Her dolls and occasionally, a lucky sibling.
She later studied fashion design at the London College of Fashion and the Academy of Merchandising and Design in Chicago, where she was introduced to and fell in love with hat making. She soon returned to London and enrolled in Kensington and Chelsea College and earned a C & G in Millinery Design and went on to further study for an HNC in Millinery Design. Joy also studied special millinery techniques with Marie ORegan, Royal Milliner to the Queen of England.
All of Joys creations are meticulously hand-crafted using the finest felts, straws and other materials from all over the world. Her bridal headpieces have graced the runway with Vera Wang gowns. Joy as entered her hats in competitions and won prizes, and one of her hats was even on exhibit at prestigious Musee du Chapeau in Lyon, France, for one year.
Joy Scott hats are available in Chicago at the Curly Tale Fine Art, accessories boutique and various events that she hosts.
