Eleanor Swan
Spending 24 years nursing both in Ireland and abroad, Eleanor Swan decided to pursue a career in the field of art. This was something she had always dreamed of doing but never realized she could actually achieve. Eleanor is an artist of passion and such deep meaning, like her work titled, “I am more that what you see", " Broken yet complete" and "Thoughtful silence".
In 2002 she commenced a degree course at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. A year later she exhibited at the RHA, the Wexford Opera Festival and the Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, Co Kildare. Eleanor received recognition and accolades for her work by winning the Arnotts Ceramic Design Award in 2004. This success was followed by exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Boyle Arts Festival, Roscommon, The Riverbank Arts Centre and the Wexford Opera Festival.
Eleanor then decided to break into the “international” market; she was able to have a solo exhibition at the Tanca Gallery, Deia, in 2005. Wanting to explore her craft and absorb new influences, she spent a month at the International Ceramic Centre, Keschkemet.
2006 she graduated with a Bachelor of Design in Craft design. Eleanor graduated with first class honors, which is the highest awarded. Selected for the touring exhibition both at The National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny and The National ceramics Arts Centre, Aberystwyth. She also took part at the “Ceramic Ireland” at the Plan Expo and Dalkey Castle in Dublin.
Eleanor Swan was first shown in 2005 in the United States, at Art Expo New York, meeting with huge success. In 2007 her art made it across the Atlantic again, for the ‘Four Artists Three Dimensions Ceramic Exhibition’ Chicago, She had three more shows to her resume’ in Jingdzehn, at the “her working in private collection around the world.
